Grading guidelines

What to look for?

  1. Did the student follow the requirements in the assignment?
  2. Does their work indicate a thoughtful approach (this could take the form of a new understanding, a disagreement, a personal experience that is relevant, etc.).
  3. Has the student made links to other material that they are hearing in the FFS or AFS (or optionally some other source that they have been exposed to)?
  4. Is the work structured, in a way that will be useful to the student later?
  5. Have they followed the guidelines (cover page, layout, file name etc.)?

Remember, we expose students to a range of different materials and we do not expect them to adopt everything without question. Thoughtful study also means explaining why something is not culturally adapted, biblical or should be challenged for some other reason. We expect students to show discernment and not to assume that everything they read or watch is OK.

Numerical grading

  • 100%: A student who fulfils more than adequately all the requirements could get 100%.
  • 80-90%: If the requirements are met, we would be at 80%-90% (That is to say, if the assignment is worth 10 points, they get 8 or 9 on the grading sheet).
  • 50%: Only fulfilling the requirements but without any indication of real understanding would be 50%
  • Below 50% is basically that someone did not fulfil the task, so in that case we might go back to the student to find out if they understood the assignment, and perhaps need a second attempt.
